Meet One Of Our Dance Teachers - Raquel dos Santos

Raquel is a self-employed dance artist, physical theatre performer and co-founder of The Woman’s Way company.

Born in Porto, Portugal, she started her training in Classical Ballet and then went to Balleteatro Escola Profissional where she completed a 3 year course in physical theatre and contemporary dance.

After taking a year to travel, perform, teach and choreograph in several projects, she moved to England and graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) Degree in Dance from Bath Spa University.

Raquel is now based in the South West. Her performance work is versatile and playful as she continues to work across projects and develop her own creative practice.

She’s also a choreographer with 10+ years of experience! Every year she choreographs 200+ surprise wedding performances, first dances and participates in music videos as a dancer/performance lead. She was also featured in the Fear at Avon Valley’s Fire Show 2022 as the main character for The Exorcism which is also now the best scare attraction in the UK!

She is also currently managing her own company, in which she works as a photographer, social media manager, content creator, movement facilitator, creative writer, amongst others.

Alongside this, she’s also a substitute teacher for several dance schools in the South West and she’s a Flamenco/Salsa instructor.

Main Styles: Popdance, Flamenco, Salsa, HipHop, Bollywood, Ballet (RAD), Contemporary.

Examples of themes taught before: Greatest Showman, Abba, Beyonce, Spice Girls, Disney, Dirty Dancing, Grease, 80’s, 90’s, amongst others.

Spare time activities: Dance is one of the first things I can think about – I also love cooking, outdoor activities, painting whilst listening to music, listening to podcasts, writing and taking walks on the beach!

My Area(s): I currently live on the outskirts of Bath. I absolutely love living here because it’s calm and not too busy but close enough to everything. It’s about 30min drive to Bristol (another “big” city) which is super handy! I occasionally also cover Wiltshire and Cheltenham.

I love working with Popdance because I am a freelance as well as a business owner and I am always looking to extend my connections/get more work. I love supporting and working with other businesses! I think that’s the way forward. I love the Popdance website and how easy it is to get in touch and book birthday parties and workshops.
