We’re super excited to have Shannon on board, to bring you parties in Manchester and London!
What’s your name and where are you in the world?
Shannon Mairead Hill, I currently live and work between London and Manchester. I was born in Dublin and have lived in the uk for 12 years.
What kind of dance to you currently offer?
I currently offer various styles of dance from Classical ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Contemporary techniques including Release, Limon and Cunningham. Other styles include Tap, hiphop/ street dance, Jazz and musical theatre and fitness classes such as Pilates, yoga, Barre fitness and progressive ballet technique.
I currently teach Baby ballet and adult ballet in London and have previously hosted dance parties, camps and workshops.
What got you into dance?
At the age of 10 I began gymnastics and I quickly advanced to a British competitive level traveling in the states and winning gold medals.
From the age of 14 I began my dance training in ballet and within two years I was accepted to Elmhurst Ballet school where I trained with the Royal Birmingham ballet for 2 years. After, I completed a vocational college training programme in Manchester at the same time as doing my DDE teaching qualifications.
When I was 18 I moved to london to where I was excepted onto the BA (hons) Contemporary dance at the London conservatoire Trinity Laban. I am very passionate about my work and intend to share this and encourage others to do the same.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading and self care including meditation and spa retreats. In my spare time I volunteer with the NHS, improving the system of mental health in and around London. I love all sports and spending time with family and friends.
What do you love about the area you live and work in?
Manchester is my hometown, I live just out of the city near wilmslow. Around villages such as cheadle and wilmslow you will find lots of schools primary and secondary, dance and academy’s.
In London, Greenwich and Canary wharf define my work places (by the river, convenient areas). Trinity Laban university is known for its use in television and films such as Cruella, Now you see me, Bridgerton and more. The campus is beautiful to walk around and the dance building state of the art. The venues I use to teach are churches, sports halls and community halls.
Why did you want to work with Popdance?
I would like to meet with someone from the company to gain some more knowledge of the company and my roles but from what I have gathered so far the company seems to give me the opportunity to share my skills independently and work from a new location.
