Popdance, the international dance business set up by Sue Wybrow and her team in January 2009, launched it’s brand new Partner Opportunity for Dance Schools across the world this week.
“We understand that dance schools need help and support even more during these tough times, and we also understand that customers want to learn many different styles of dance, not just Popdance, therefore by working together with Dance Schools, we can be a partner they can rely on”, Sue explained.
Sue went on to say: “With things such as help with marketing, promoting their schools, providing support, ideas, motivation, inspiration, endless choreography, downloads and bringing them additional revenue with Popdance parties, workshops, after school clubs, classes etc. And, having run Popdance for the past 11 years, we’ve definitely got the experience of tried and tested models and how to provide incredible customer service.”

Meet the Team – Jade Lily – Walthamstow
Dance Birthday Parties – Walthamstow
What’s your name and where are you in the world?
My name is Jade and I’m From Walthamstow in East London.
What kind of dance do you currently offer?
I can offer Popdance workshops and birthday parties.
I also offer Ballet and Contemporary Classes.
What got you into dance?
My mother signed me up for ballet class when I was five years old and from there I just fell in love with dance. I have worked in various genres of dance such as Musical Theatre and Contemporary.
At the moment I am studying Dance with London College of Performing Arts based in Abbeywood. I am learning Ballet,Tap,Jazz and Commerical under the training of Broadway and West End professionals.
I would love to one day join a ballet company such as the Royal Ballet or the Bolshoi then later on retire and become a dance teacher which is why I’m trying to gain some experience especially during a time like this where the arts are under a huge amount of economical straining.
I’ve trained at Vestry School of Dance and Performing Arts, Mulberry School of Dance and My Ballet Academy.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I love to choreograph routines to my favourite songs and also edit videos and pictures for my social media.
What do you love about the area you live and work in?
I love how multicultural my area is, my mother is Italian so therefore knowing that I have access to many different cultures right on my doorstep is incredible. I have become good friends with people who work in restaurants around Walthamstow over the years because my family love to go out and eat different cultures food.
Why did you want to work with Popdance?
I wanted to work with Popdance because I want to be able to give people the chance to get involved within the arts especially during a time like this where there’s not much opportunity for the arts.I think everyone should have the right to be able to dance regardless of their financial situations and I know that dance classes can be expensive. I want to be able to show people why I love dance and hopefully be able to give people a reason why they should love dance as well.
What are you looking forward to for the year ahead?
I’m looking forward to working alongside the amazing Popdance team and hopefully delivering birthday parties to people within my area.

Meet The Teachers – Nicole Ricardo – Clapham, London
Birthday Parties in Clapham, London
My name is Nicole Ricardo, and I live in Clapham, London. I offer Popdance birthday parties and workshops for adults and children, as well as Popdance Fit for adults. I am also trained to teach Barre, and HIIT to ‘the beat’. I got into dance when I started studying performing arts, and did various forms of dance as part of the course. I am trained in modern theatre and tap to an intermediate level (ISTD), as well as jazz at a gold level, and open hip hop, latin and ballet. I have a passion for movement with the intention of fitness and enjoyment, and I love choreographing for visual and musical expression. In my spare time, I like to read, watch series and musicals, pursue further studies in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Personal Training/Health and Nutrition, and spend time exploring new and creative places and things with my friends. I love Clapham because there are plenty of trees and park space as well as beautiful shops and restaurants, with easy access to central London. I’m working with Popdance as it’s is a fun way to use my skills to encourage other people to enjoy movement and improve their physical and mental well-being, whilst earning a living on a flexible schedule that allows me to pursue my other passions too. For the year ahead, I am looking forward to establishing myself in London and experiencing new things, as well as continuing to improve my skills, whilst positively contributing to the lives of the people I have the opportunity to work with.

Meet Kimberley – Popdance Teacher in Newhaven, East Sussex
Dance Birthday Parties in Newhaven, East Sussex
I started at Jean Cantelle in Newhaven dance studio way back in the 70’s doing freestlye disco, ballroom and Latin and taught there for a bit until I was 17. I have a lot to thank Jean for.
I also went to Rosemary Jane in Seaford and did ballet, tap and modern. I lived for dancing.
At 20 I worked for Haven holidays as a dancer and then lived up in Newcastle, I was a cheerleader for the O2 arena for basketball and ice hockey and a dancer for Metro FM radio for Alan Shearer’s signing, and openings of venues. I was also a club dancer and qualified as an aerobics instructor working all over the North East.
I went back to Haven as head girl dancer and learnt production shows to teach and perform.
I started as a singer for resident bands and would perform cabaret in one venue as a dancer and rush over to do the second band set as well as teach fitness in the mornings. I choreographed, taught and performed in the summer and toured with a showband around the UK in the winter doing clubs, theatres, army barracks you name it.
I danced and auditioned other dancers for cabaret showbands until I was 33.
I also became a singer with my own PA and sang working men’s clubs, pubs, holiday parks and in different bands and I still do sometimes.
I started working for the NHS and passed my AMSPAR Medical Secretary course in 2014 but, I missed dancing terribly.
As I’d started successful dance classes in Devon and Cornwall I decided to start one in my home town of Newhaven and that’s when I came across POPDANCE.
In 2019 I found out I had hypothyroidism and put on a lot of weight, I suffered with extreme tiredness and didn’t recognise myself and I’m not ashamed to say I struggled with depression, suddenly at 46 my body had changed and I had no energy.
I understand low mood and no motivation and then feeling guilty for that, the catch 22 where you eat because you’re low but you’re terrified of all your clothes because they are now 2 to 3 sizes too small for you.
I get it and I would never question why you haven’t come to class for a while it’s ok x
But just come to feel the music, get some “you” time and have a giggle sometimes. There is no pressure. Sometimes it just helps to get out of the house and you’ll be surprised how many women there feel exactly as you do. At least then you have burned off a few calories just by getting there.
Please feel welcome any time and know that there is no pressure. Have a jiggle and a giggle then go home and whack the kettle on.
